Hi, hi, hello!!
Brand new DT member Erica here with my first blog post for Picket Fence Studios! If you think I’m excited, you are 100% correct. I have been a big fan since the start and have been lucky enough to have been a guest designer in the past. When I was asked to join the DT I couldn’t stop jumping around like a kangaroo hopped up on coffee! Or at least what I imagine a caffeinated kangaroo looks like.
Before I make a big(ger) fool of myself, I am going to get to the cards I made for this post. I have used my favourite colour: rainbow and some fun sentiments. The stamps are from Crafty Mail and there are some super fun sentiments in this set. A definite must-have for us crafty peeps, for sure.
These cards are quite similar, with a few exceptions. One has gold embossing powder, one has white. One has a black card base, the other one has a white one. One has a huge amount of sequins, while the other one has none. Making cards this way is something I do quite often. I take a basic design, execute it slightly differently, or finish it off with different elements. I love seeing how changing one small thing can change the entire card.
Right, so, back to the actual card making. With the help of my MISTI, I placed and stamped the sentiments on the card panels with VersaMark ink and heat embossed one in Metallic Gold Rich. I left the stamps in the MISTI to make sure both cards had exactly the same spacing.
The other one I wanted to use white EP on and I tend to add that AFTER ink blending and colouring when I was super crisp and white embossing. No matter how much you tidy up the embossing after, it almost always look stained when using strong colours. So to avoid that, I do white after. Before I stamped anything though, I used my anti-static tool very thoroughly all over the card stock.
Both panels were taped down with masking tape as I was going to use water colours. I use an old cutting plate as my backing piece, these are sturdy and I like reusing them for something new.
The water colours I have used are Gansai Tambi 36 pack. I started out by wetting my piece and then adding colours in broad strokes, making sure not to mix the colours too much. I wanted them to blend but not create new colours. While it was drying, I added more colours to make sure they were as vivid as possible.
While the panels were drying, I cut, scored and folded my card bases. I also cut out pieces of foam sheet to go on the back of the water colour panels. I like using this kind of foam tape as it minimises the warping once the background is on the card base.
On the card with the gold embossing, I added a VERY generous amount of Crystal Rainbow Fusion sequins from Studio Katia.
Which one do you like best? I’d love to hear your thoughts as I have a hard time deciding which one I like better out of the two. I also went back and forth between a black or white card base for the second card. In the end, I went for the white one. Did I make the right choice? What do you think?
Thank you so much for stopping by the Picket Fence Studio’s blog today, I hope you have enjoyed this post!
Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica
