Hi guys!
A very caffeinated Erica on the blog today with some coffee-licious cards! Everyone who knows me, know that I am *a bit* of a coffee lover. Just a bit. So when I saw the I Like Big Ones stamp and coordinating die set, I got very giddy!
I started out by ink blending some blue and turquoise inks, over a stencil, on two separate pieces of paper. This stencil is called Triangle Collage and it made a gorgeous pattern! It should come as no surprise I used the Life Changing Blender Brushes for the ink blending.
What I should have done next was stamp and heat emboss the outlines of the cups, and THEN used the coordinating diecut on them. Of course I had to make it difficult for myself and do it the other way around. Oh well, it still worked out great.
I had an idea to create a foamy cup of coffee and to create the foam part I added a generous helping of 3D Snow formula. This is something I found in a local craft shop while I lived in Poland.
While that was wet, I made a pattern in the ‘foam’ by swirling some Ground Espresso Distress Oxide Spray in them.
While the foam was setting, I started working on the backgrounds. I stuck to the coffee theme and used the Give Me A Break background stamp. Instead of stamping it using my MISTI, for a full coverage, I dragged my ink pad across it. I used Ground Espresso Distress Oxide for this too as it’s a really lovely coffee colour. By dragging the ink pad across the stamp, instead of dabbing it generously, it created a really fun effect. I love how it turned out and must remember to use this technique more often!
With my backgrounds done, and my cups dry, it was time to assemble! With the help of my Mini MISTI, I stamped up the sentiment from the stamp set ‘I like big ones and I can not lie’ in Hybrid Black ink on white strips on card stock. These I adhered at the top. Then it was a quick job of adding the cups to the cards and they were done!
I had such a fun time with this stamp set that I couldn’t stop with just two cards. I made another one, while I was on a roll! This time I tried something totally different to add colour to the cup. I die cut the cup
out of patterned paper. Super quick and easy way to add fun patterns and colours to your projects.
On this one I stamped up the cup outline in black and then I fussy cut it out, to get it cut out right at the black edge. With the help of a VersaMark pen, instead of the ink pad, I then used Puff Powder from WOW! Embossing to create a foamy top. I also stamped up a sentiment on the cup itself. This is from Love Of Coffee and is stamped up in Hybrid Black ink.
As the cup was so nice and colourful, I decided to use the same technique for the background, but use different colours. To keep with the colour scheme of the cup, I used Mermaid Lagoon, Twisted Citron, Squeezed Lemonade, Worn Lipstick and Seedless Preserve Distress Oxide inks.
With that, all my cards are done! Thanks for stopping by the blog today and I hope I have inspired you to try one of these techniques for yourself.
Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica
